Shoreline Drift pine needle sculpture is a one-of-a-kind original sculptural piece that has a lot of time and love poured into it. From harvesting and cleaning the pine needles to sanding and polishing the driftwood piece to hand stitching the piece together. I really enjoyed making this piece, it took me back to the day that my husband and I went on one of our day trips to the beaches nearby where I love to search the shorelines for beautiful natural pieces to incorporate into my work.

The challenge with this piece was incorporating the driftwood into the coiling without having to use glue or drilling holes into it to secure it. I wanted it to be in its natural state without any disturbance and to be able to remove and replace the driftwood piece for a separate display or for cleaning.

Sometimes I find it difficult to let go of my work, I enjoy creating each and every piece I make, I find it very therapeutic and relaxing. When I started creating over 20 years ago, I told myself that I wanted every piece that I create to have meaning, and uniqueness that one-of-a-kind aesthetic and if I ever started creating them to all be the same, I might as well quit and go buy one of a million assembly line pieces and hang up my sewing needle and thread.
